50 Things About Me
1- I’m not very good at riding a bike. As a kid, I rode all over the place and had no problem… Fast forward to college: me and my bike did NOT get along. I had 3 pretty bad accidents. I haven’t gotten on one since. But oh, how I wish I could overcome this fear. I used to LOVE riding my bicycle!
2- I had to learn how to say the alphabet backwards in elementary school (for a school musical), and I still remember it to this day.
3- I am a people-pleaser to a fault. Always have been. I’ve had some issues with this in the past, but I’ve been gaining some SERIOUS ground in this over the last 5 or so years.
4- My favorite flower is a peony. Hands down… would rather have a peony over a rose any day!
5- I’m kind of obsessed with foreign languages. And with how languages and words sound and flow together… always have been. This is *one* of the reasons I went back to school to get my MA in linguistics.
6- I love to cook. I do follow recipes, but usually use them as inspiration. The kitchen is the place where I find my creativity really abounds, and it often helps me to unwind.
7- I want to own my own business someday. This has been a dream of mine for years (10+). It used to be that I wanted to own a children’s bookstore (a la You’ve Got Mail). But lately (in the past 2-3 years), I’m also considering a café or a small home store.
8- I’m have learned some of what it takes to own and run my own business by working as an Independent Stylist with Stella & Dot.
9- I love my family more than I can say. And living so far away from them has been very tough.
10- Atlanta is where part of my heart lives. The 7 years I spent there were some of my best!
11- While part of my heart lives in Atlanta, going to Florida is like going home. Always. I guess there’s a part of me that will always be a Florida girl.
12- I love going to the zoo, aquarium and amusement parks. I’m secretly still a little kid.
13- I just started playing golf a couple years ago. I don’t play often, so I’m not that great. But I enjoy it and I can hit the ball right down the fairway.
14- My dad, my brother and I communicate among ourselves with music. We all love it, and we all know it well. Thanks to my dad, who started me and my brother out young.
15- If I had to choose 5 bands/musicians to listen to for the rest of my life (and only those 5), but I could have all their past, present and future music, these are the 5 I’d choose: The Beatles, U2, Caedmon’s Call, John Mayer, Coldplay
16- I am a Boston Red Sox fan. LOVE them! I can remember sitting in a bar in Atlanta watching them bring home their first World Series Title since 1918, in 2004. What an awesome night! This love for the Sox comes from my Dad.
17- I have a crush on the city of Chicago. I went for the first time in June 2010, and went back twice since that first visit within 6 months. I love that it’s so close! And I hope to return often!!
18- I feel so much healthier when I’m running, but it’s often so hard to motivate myself.
19- I’m thinking about starting to train for another running race, but upping the ante to a half-marathon. I need to get to work. Maybe this will keep me motivated…
20- I know way too much about the TV show FRIENDS, but that’s what happens when you repeatedly watch the entire series.
21- I’m kind of an elitist when it comes to Macs vs. PCs. I HATE PCs and I lovelovelove Macs. I’ve used them both, and I will never, ever go back to a PC!
22- I hate having my picture taken.
23- I never tried marijuana or any illicit drugs and did not drink alcohol until my 21st birthday. I have never smoked a cigarette.
24- My favorite home décor stores are Arhaus, Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, and West Elm.
25- I got into my first-choice college (years ago), but tuition was too high. Maybe one day I’ll get to be a Blue Devil. I guess I’ll have to go for that PhD!
26- I have a tendency to be a clutz. It makes me laugh, though. And Brock thinks it’s hilarious. So, at least it keeps us laughing!
27-I love to write. I used to want to be a writer. Maybe that aspiration will rear its head again at some point. For now, though, I’m content with blogging and journaling.
28- I can be a little obsessive when I clean. I want it done all at once, and done right. If it takes me hours to clean the house, then so be it. But I don’t want to clean a little bit and then have to leave the rest for later or another day. I want it all done, or I can’t relax. So I don’t clean unless I can set aside a block of time to get it done (and I am able to do this often enough! Not like I only clean once every 6 weeks).
29- It’s been a while, but I love to play tennis.
30- I have a ravenous appetite for books. I wish I could just sit and read all day, every day. I almost always have a book in hand. And one in my purse, several on my nightstand. And hundreds in our house.
31- I have this silly “dream” of one day being a tap dancer. I like to pretend that I actually can, and often break into a full-out tap dance at random times. I took classes when I was little, and remember LOVING it! I’ve often looked for classes as an adult, but can’t seem to find “beginner tap classes” for adults. Seems that ship has sailed!
32- I have many favorite books, but my all-time favorite, the one I’ve read over and over, is: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. (Side note: I was set up on a blind date with a man several years ago who asked me what my favorite book was. When I told him, he asked who the author was and I told him. He then insisted that Lee was a man. And went on to say that he also really liked the other books that [he] had written, such as Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Hello!? Another book not written by a man, and not even a contemporary of Harper Lee!). I’m such a book lover that I had to explain to this guy that I thought he was confused, on both counts. Needless to say, he was arrogant enough to stand his ground. So, we did not see each other again. It didn’t help that he had 10 beers on our “date” and I had to find my own ride home.)
33- I love sushi, avocados, bacon, salmon, and spinach.
34- I am an INFP on the Myers-Brigg personality test. To refresh your memory, that means: introvert, intuition, feeling, perceiving. If you’ve been reading my blog very long, you probably already know that. I married an ESTJ (extrovert, sensing, thinking, judging)… I guess opposites really do attract.
35- Movies I could watch over and over: You’ve Got Mail, In Her Shoes, The Family Stone, Love Actually, Notting Hill, Elf, Ocean’s 11, The Wedding Planner, The Wedding Date, The Lion King, Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Shakespeare in Love, The Holiday.
36- I often feel nostalgic during the start of school, as I taught school for 6 years.
37- We were married June 13, 2009, at Ponte Vedra Inn & Club, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. The ceremony was indoors, and the reception was supposed to be outdoors, but it rained. The “Plan B” ended up being absolutely BEAUTIFUL, so no complaints here. Besides, isn’t it supposed to be good luck if it rains on your wedding day? Or is that just something they tell brides to keep us from freaking out? 🙂
38- My favorite wine is a red, from Williamette Valley Vineyards: Whole Cluster Pinot Noir. We had it first at a delicious, local Italian restaurant, and we’ve found it several times at a local wine store. My favorite cocktail is a Mojito… YUM! I don’t drink often, by the way… Maybe just 2-3 times a month.
39- I am a foodie. My dream kitchen would have a 6 or 8 burner Viking gas stove with griddle and grill, 2 ovens, a prep sink a marble-top island (for baking!) and a commercial coffee maker.
40- I have lived in 5 states over the course of my life: I grew up in Florida (St. Pete) and lived there until I graduated high school. Then my family moved to Arkansas (Little Rock) and I lived and went to college (Hendrix College) there for 2 years. Then I transferred to another college (MTSU) and lived in Tennessee for 3 years. When I graduated from college, I moved to Georgia (Atlanta), where I lived and worked for almost 7 years. I decided to go back to school and get my Master’s degree. So I moved back to Florida (Gainesville), where I went to UF for two years. When Brock and I got married, I moved back to Arkansas for 7 months, and then we moved to Kentucky (Lexington), which is where we live now. …Whew! Got that!?? 🙂
41- I have my Master’s degree in Linguistics. I’m not currently doing anything with it, although for over a little over a year I was working as a Linguistic Analyst for a market research company. I did discourse analysis for them, and I loved it. I’d love to get back to using my MA at some point. But at the same time, I’m really enjoying what I’m doing now, which is working at Arhaus Furniture as a Manager in Training (MIT).
42- For some reason, I always seem to leave just a small bit of coffee in the bottom of my coffee mug.
43- I’m 34 years old, and learning to accept that I’m almost in my mid-30s. YIKES!!
44- I would lovelove to live in New England–someplace like Vermont or Maine, maybe even Boston.
45- We cannot wait to visit Europe! Particularly, Ireland!
46- I drive a 2004 Honda Accord EX, and I love it. It has close to 90,000 miles on it and I’ve never had a single problem with it. I’ve always driven a Honda, except for a short stint with a Mazda Millenia. It was a LEMON! So I promptly went back to good ole’ Honda. I’d love to drive a CRV at some point. This 5’2″ lady might see a little better out of something that sits up a little higher.
47- My favorite time of day is sunset. One thing that I SO miss about living on the Gulf Coast of Florida is the way the sun sinks down into the water. It’s gorgeous.
48- I want to have a garden with herbs and veggies! I can’t wait!! (The peonies (see #4)–and other flowering plants–will have to go in some flower beds).
49- I love visiting my parents’ home in Florida, even though going to see them in Chattanooga is MUCH closer (and easier!).
50- My husband is so very good to me. I’m kinda overwhelmed daily by how he loves me, and shows me his love.
