Knitpick

Yours truly did something today that she’s been wanting to do for a while. Something that she’s watched her mom and sister-in-law (among many others) do with such ease and confidence, and been in awe… And no, it isn’t speaking in the third person. In fact, she kinda hates when people refer to themselves in the third person, so she’s not quite sure why she’s decided to write this post in the third person…

In fact, she’s switching right.now.

There. That’s better. I took my first knitting class today! It lasted 3 hours and focused on all the basics: casting on, knitting, purling and binding off. There were 5 of us in the class so we got some great one-on-one attention from the teacher (who happens to own an adorable, cozy knitting/yarn shop here in Lexington).

I managed to get in some really good practice today (although, I’m not going to lie: it was touch and go there a couple of times!), and left with 3 skeins of cotton yarn, a set of needles, and a tapestry needle to help tuck in the tail of my yarn when I bind off. So look out! I’ll be knitting wash cloths for practice (and for use in our kitchen)… And maybe everyone else’s kitchen–I guess it depends on how much practice I need before I graduate to scarves. 🙂

Here’s a photo of what I’d like to be able to knit in the not-so-distant-future:
