Between now and September, 2012, my goal is to read these books–and then some!!! Some have been recommended to me by friends, mentors and colleagues, others are books I’ve either wanted to read for a while or are new additions due to my own research. But they’re all on this list for one reason: because I want to read them! So, here goes…

Your list came up because I had GK Chesterton on a list of Google alerts, having just “discovered” him with a library audio book Everlasting Man. I have also made a more recent commitment to reading more, and I have been able to read 63 books this year.
How do you choose the books on your list? What about The Man Who Was Thursday? Crazy Love is one of my favorites, and I think you will like it very much if you haven’t read them yet, some of my other favorites are Mere Christianity, Screwtape Letters, David Copperfield, and a lot of others.
What kind of research do you do? Have you ever join or thought about joining goodreads.com? It is a good place to keep track of books you want to read, see the thoughts of others as they read the book you are reading, and record quotes from what you read in an organized fashion. Judging from “FILED UNDER: Life, My Library”, I am figuring you are pretty organized.
Hi,
I used to read SO much more than I do now… but after having recently finished a master’s degree and reading SO MUCH, I’m still taking a bit of a break. Even though the books I read for my MA were SO interesting.
The research I was referring to was for my MA, in linguistics.
I choose the books based mostly on interest and wanting to balance learning in several areas (but many come from conversation with friends and colleagues). I’ve wanted to read The Man Who was Thursday for several years, after having heard a lot of good things about it. I love Lewis, and even he had many good things to say about Thursday and Chesterton in general. Mere Christianity and Screwtape are such good reads!
I haven’t joined goodreads.com yet, though I’ve had many people mention it and suggest that I’d love it. I tend to organize what I read and want to read in other ways, but I’m sure I’ll check it out at some point.
63 books is a LOT of books!! That is pretty awesome! Do you read in diverse areas as well?
I love that you mention “me Talk Pretty One Day” . I laughed out loud with that one.
Aunt Cathy! I’ve heard so many GOOD things about Me Talk Pretty… so I have to read it! LOVE that you laughed out loud!
